The Crowded Room Plot
The Crowded Room starts in 1979, when Danny Sullivan, a man, finds himself caught up in a shooting in New York. Due to his role in the shooting, he is detained by the police after being arrested. Over the course of numerous interviews with Danny, the story unfolds.
Detective Rya Goodwin is trying to learn more about why Danny was there that particular day, but she keeps asking him questions that eventually disclose his life’s history. The audience learns the experiences that created Danny and gets a better understanding of the kind of man Danny is as Rya delves ever more into the mystery surrounding Danny’s strange past.
After a series of unexpected developments that ultimately bring Danny to a realization that will change his life, the stories come together. It sounds like one of those tales that is totally narrated by someone whose reliability we are unsure of.
It’s possible that this is another story where we may find ourselves at the whim of a single narrator, similar to how Kevin Spacey transformed into Keyser Söze in The Usual Suspects. We’ll discover more about Danny Sullivan as he starts to describe his own life and why he participated in the incident that led to his incarceration.
We’ll be handed a tangled ball of yarn at the start of the story, and as the series progresses, we’ll gently untangle it. Rashomon by Akira Kurosawa is an example of how a single story can be recounted numerous times and provide a distinct tale each time.
