DISNEY+ ORIGINALS
A Small Light Episodes 5-6
When her boss Otto Frank (Liev Schreiber) asked secretary Miep Gies (Bel Powley) to conceal him and his family from the Nazis during World War II, she didn’t think twice. This amazing narrative is told in the stirring eight-episode limited series.
The eight people who were hiding in the hidden annex were kept under observation for the following two years by Miep, her husband Jan (Joe Cole), and a number of other common people. Anne’s diary was discovered by Miep, who kept it safe so that she and Otto might someday share it with the world.
The phrase “I don’t like being called a hero” is taken from something Gies stated toward the end of her life: “No one should ever think you have to be special to help others.” In a dark room, even a regular secretary, housewife, or adolescent can turn on a modest light.
