Halle Bailey Performs “Part Of Your World” At Disneyland!

At the Disneyland Resort last night, Halle Bailey, who plays Ariel in the upcoming live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, gave a memorable performance of the classic song Part of Your World in front of Sleeping Beauty’s castle. The performance was broadcast on American Idol; you can see it below as well.

The Little Mermaid is the well-known tale of Ariel, a young mermaid who is lovely and courageous and has a desire for exploration. Ariel, the youngest and most rebellious of King Triton’s daughters, longs to learn more about the world above the sea.

While on a visit to the surface, she develops feelings for the handsome Prince Eric. Mermaids aren’t supposed to talk to humans, but Ariel has to do what she feels. She strikes a deal with Ursula, a wicked sea witch, in order to experience life on dry ground, but in doing so endangers both her life and her father’s throne.

The voice of Ariel is provided by singer and actress Halle Bailey (Grown-ish); Sebastian is voiced by Tony Award winner Daveed Diggs (Hamilton, Snowpiercer); Flounder is voiced by Jacob Tremblay (Luca, Room); Scuttle is voiced by Awkwafina (Raya and the Last Dragon); Prince Eric is voiced by Jonah Hauer-King (A Dog’s Way Home); Sir Grimsby is voiced ) in the role of Ursula.

The Little Mermaid is a live-action adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen short story and the Disney animated film, directed by Oscar nominee Rob Marshall (Chicago, Mary Poppins Returns), written by two-time Oscar nominee David Magee (Life of Pi, Finding Neverland), and produced by two-time Emmy winner John DeLuca (Tony Bennett: An American Classic).

Marc Platt (Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, Grease Live! ), Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton, In the Heights), Rob Marshall, and John DeLuca are the producers of the movie, and Jeffrey Silver (The Lion King) is the executive producer. Mike Higham (Mary Poppins Returns, Into the Woods) oversaw and produced the music.

The score is by multiple Academy Award winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin), who won two Oscars for the music of the animated version of The Little Mermaid. Alan Menken composed the music, Howard Ashman wrote the lyrics, and Lin-Manuel Miranda added fresh lyrics. The movie debuts on May 26, 2023, in theaters.
