An employee at the Computer Centre named Pajitnov developed a passion for playing video games on the computer.

Alexey used to love spending time as a kid with his pentomino set. He was motivated to make a game out of the idea after struggling to put together a set of pentominoes. In the facility’s computer center, he began programming Tetris on an Electronic 60.

Pajitnov made the initial version of the game in around two weeks. A day of triumph for him: June 6, 1984. Unfortunately, the first release did not have any of the portions or musical accompaniment. Later, Dmitri Pevlovsky, another programmer, took an interest in it. Using the help of a sixteen-year-old intern named Vadim Gerasimov, the PC version was created in under three weeks.

Alexey’s game lacked music and a scoreboard until he worked on it for a few months. The game arrived in the United States from the Soviet Union in 1986. Years later, he developed Welltris, a follow-up to Tetris. He and Vladimir Pokhiko came to the United States as immigrants in 1991.

The Tetris Company was established in 1996 by Pajitnov and Henk Rogers. Now he could collect future game royalties, too. After that, he and Pokhiko established the AnimaTek 3D software company and created the game Pandora’s Box.

Alexei worked with Microsoft beginning in October 1996 and ending in October 2005. During his time at Microsoft, he helped develop the Puzzle Collection section of the Microsoft Entertainment Bundle and worked on the MSN Games team. On March 31, 2023, Pajitnov will make his debut in the Apple TV+ biopic Tetris.

Alexey Pajitnov’s wife, Nina, is a married woman. Peter and Dmitri were the two sons from their union. In 2017, his son Dmitri was killed in a skiing accident on Mount Rainier. Pajitnov had been reported missing after he had gone missing for some time. On February 9, 2018, his body was located and brought back to the morgue.
